The performance in Los Angeles included the vocal stylings of 14-year-old Disney Records singing artist Myra in addition to the tours’ regular troupe of actors. Developed with the help of elementary-level reading specialists, the hour-long scholastic presentation combines storytelling with live, educational theater.
During the performance, children sit on their own “magic carpets” which, in reality, are carpet samples donated by Carpet One. At the end of the show, each student and teacher is given a grade-appropriate Disney book and a cassette single of Myra’s rendition of “Magic Carpet Ride.” In addition, local schools are allowed to keep donated carpet squares for future library and classroom use.
The tour, which has already made stops at more than 145 schools nationwide since its fall 2000 debut, will conclude its more than 600 nationally scheduled appearances during the 2001 school year.
