CPA firm Elliott Davis LLC and the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce co-sponsored the survey. The exclusive ranking was developed to recognize exceptional growth and performance across the entire spectrum of the state's business sectors. Rankings were based on a weighted equation factoring in growth in revenues or assets, along with increases in employment and capital investment.

Sixty-eight companies were honored at a luncheon held on November 8, with special Achievement Awards presented to the Top 25.
