Interface Launches Two New Carpet Collections, Marking 25 Years of Nature-Inspired Design

Interface introduced two new carpet tile collections, Material Impressions and Open Road, celebrating the 25th anniversary of its innovative i2 design approach. The collections expand Interface's portfolio of nature-inspired flooring solutions that prioritize similarity over uniformity in commercial spaces.
The i2 approach revolutionized commercial flooring when it was introduced in 1998, moving away from the industry standard of exact pattern matching. Instead, inspired by nature's random variations, i2 tiles are designed to blend rather than match exactly – similar to how no two leaves in a forest are identical. This innovation eliminates matching dye lot concerns and simplifies tile replacement throughout a building's lifecycle.
Material Impressions features three styles blending geometric and speckled patterns with ombre detailing, while Open Road offers organic and geometric designs inspired by granite seams. Both collections continue Interface's biomimicry-based design philosophy, first introduced in 1998 after being inspired by Janine Benyus's work on how nature would design a floor.
The new collections, available now in North America, provide enhanced design flexibility for commercial spaces, allowing tiles to be replaced without exact matching concerns. This approach has proven successful in workplaces and education spaces, where adaptability and performance are crucial.
