PG Hardwood Flooring will now be adding an antimicrobial additive to all their prefinished and pre-oiled products. This exclusive proprietary patented technology made of silver ions held in a glass matrix is creating an efficient and natural antimicrobial product.

This surface protection serves as a complementary measure to daily cleaning without creating a sterile environment. This is eliminating 99.995% of bacterial infections like MRSA, E. Coli and listeria. Many of the used active substances have been successfully tested against enveloped viruses like the influenza, the avian flu and the SARS. Although there is no available test against the Covid-19, there is every reason to believe that these active substances would be efficient against this new virus.

Samples were tested using the JIS 2801:2000 method for the E. Coli. Tested products with our antimicrobial surface protection are presenting a bacterial reduction of 99.995% as fast as 6 hours after initial exposure, in contrast to an untreated surface which is showing a bacterial growth in the 6 following hours.

Recent independent tests showed that time, scratches and wear do not affect the antibacterial additive’s performance, as well as chemical cleaners like bleach, disinfectants and alcohol. Even aggressive industrial products like MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) do not affect the antimicrobial properties of PG Hardwood Flooring products.
