Norwalk, Conn. -- The Business Intelligence Group recently named Harlan Stone, Halstead/Metroflor Group CEO, a Sustainability Hero for the 2018 Sustainability Awards. The Sustainability Awards honor people, teams, and organizations who have made sustainability an integral part of their business practice or overall mission. Metroflor was also named a Sustainability Initiative of the Year (Project) finalist for achieving the JUST social justice label for its Asian manufacturing facility.
The longstanding “Made in China” stigma leads many American companies to hide the origin of their products made there. Stone was acknowledged for becoming completely transparent about the processes, product ingredients, and social responsibility element of the Elegant Home-Tech manufacturing facility, which culminated in achieving the first-ever JUST label for a Chinese manufacturer.
“I am humbled and excited that executives from a wide range of businesses have acknowledged our global sustainability efforts,” said Stone. “Our mission has been to use transparency within our Chinese manufacturing facility as a platform for improving the perception of Chinese-manufactured products. By advancing the ‘Positively Made in China’ theme, our goal is to set a new standard in product and social transparency for companies manufacturing there and beyond. Receiving this Sustainability Award reflects and reinforces that sustainability is a global issue which effects everyone on the planet.”
Maria Jimenez, chief nominations officer for Business Intelligence Group, added, “We are proud to reward and recognize Harlan Stone and Metroflor as both winner and finalist for their sustainability efforts,” “It was clear to our judges that his vision and strategy will continue to deliver results toward a more transparent and sustainable world.”
