Chicago, Ill. -- Interface launched its first carbon negative carpet tile backing, CircuitBac Green. Currently available to EMEA customers, CircuitBac Green is the first step in commercializing Interface’s carbon negative prototype carpet tile, Proof Positive, which was shown last year at NeoCon. CircuitBac Green offers the first carbon negative alternative to current backing materials. It achieves this through using a mix of carbon negative bio-plastics and mineral filler. The composite material used in CircuitBac Green stores carbon, greatly reducing the carbon footprint of the overall carpet tile.
Producing carbon negative products is a key tenant of Interface’s Climate Take Back mission, which moves the company from “doing no harm” to “doing more good” and actually helping to reverse global warming. The unique new backing is currently available with more than 15 of Interface’s existing modular carpet styles in the EMEA market, providing a range of price points, patterns, colors and format options to help customers achieve their business sustainability needs.
Reinforced with fiberglass, CircuitBac Green offers optimum stability and durability. The backing compound is made from 97% non-virgin petrochemical content, 80% recycled limestone filler, 17% bio-plastics and natural oils, and 3% virgin petrochemical content (additives). This means the total recycled and biobased content for a finished carpet can be as high as 87%, depending on the product. Products with CircuitBac Green backing can be installed using Interface’s TacTiles.
