The 2018 Spring Collection from Karndean Designflooring introduces fresh, on-trend colors across its Knight Tile and Opus gluedown ranges and Korlok Reserve rigid core, expanding the company’s portfolio of high-quality Karndean Designfloors to suit both residential and Main Street applications.
To develop new designs, the Karndean product team travels the world in search of desired wood and stone species that may not make a practical floor in their natural form, such as the fast wear of pine and walnut. After hand-selecting pieces of these materials, the team creates designs that highlight intriguing natural details in a variety of colorways – some true to the natural hues, some in more contemporary variations, but all in a waterproof, durable luxury vinyl. Each of the 24 new visuals in the Spring 2018 Collection has its own story.
A notable story behind one of our new designs begins at a quarry located in England’s Lake District, renowned for its high hills formed from volcanic rock dating back 300 million years. The quarries have been in use for centuries and are thought to have been used by the Romans as a source of building materials. Once a year the quarries use dynamite to extract slabs, which are then manually removed. The age of the rocks, the moisture in the air that rolls in from the Atlantic Ocean and Irish Sea, and the layers that build up over time create unique visuals.
While visiting the quarry district, Karndean Designflooring product developers hand-selected pieces of slate from several quarries and blended the different elements to create one design. The result of which can be seen in Knight Tile’s Grey Riven Slate, whose texture is true to the rough appearance of natural riven slate, split along the stone’s natural layers. With a palette ranging from light washed grays to smoky browns and indigo blacks, the newest Knight Tile and Opus gluedown designs feature original wood and stone visuals.
An extension of the award-winning Korlok Select range, Korlok Reserve is a new rigid core collection from Karndean Designflooring. From the classic, yet rustic design of Vintage Oregon Oak sourced from the Pacific Northwest, to the sleek, matte grays of Tavern Oiled Oak, this collection of woods is an eclectic mix of rustic, limed, aged and oiled visuals.
