Judges for the 2017 Gold Nugget Awards have named the ABC Green Home 3.0 as a grand award winner in its annual competition, which honors architectural design and planning excellence. Now in its 54th year, the Gold Nugget Awards is the largest competition honoring design and planning achievements in community and home design, green-built housing, site planning, commercial, retail, mixed-use development, and specialty housing. Peninsula Publishing received the Gold Nugget award for the ABC Green Home 3.0 in the “Best Zero Net Energy Home Design” category.

“Gold Nugget Award winners reflect our industry’s best, brightest and most innovative architects, planners and builder/developers,” said Lisa Parrish, judging chairman and Gold Nugget ceremonies administrator.

Located in Fullerton, Calif., the ABC Green Home 3.0 is the third iteration of the ABC (Affordable, Buildable, Certifiable) Green Home, which was used to educate and train builders, students, industry groups, and visitors before being made available to a veteran and his family. The project, created by Danielian Associates Architecture + Planning, aims to create a series of net-zero energy homes that serve as examples of high-performance, energy-efficient homebuilding as California moves toward the implementation of its net-zero regulations in 2020. The home will be rated by seven certifications, including LEED, Build it Green, The DOE’s Builder Challenge, ENERGY STAR, The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) adopted by the NAHB, an indoor air quality rating from Wellness Within Your Walls, and WaterSense.

Armstrong Flooring contributed its U.S.-made American Scrape Hickory engineered floors to the project. The hickory floors in this collection have a subtle rustic scrape, creating a textured look, which highlights the distinctive graining and knots of the wood species.
