Neolith, manufactured by TheSize, has been awarded a Product Innovation Award (PIA) from Architectural Products magazine.

The PIAs determine and honor innovation in the development and refinement of buildings-related products that range from cladding systems to interior finishes.

The new polished finish, unique to Neolith sintered compact surfacing, elicits the true character and beauty of natural stone in a more durable and low maintenance material, according to the company. The finish offers a higher degree of shine, which allows architects to design unique spaces—including countertops, interior or exterior wall cladding and interior floors with low traffic—where brittle and porous natural marble traditionally poses a challenge.

To create the polish, a thin layer of glass is melted directly onto Neolith’s digitally decorated and full body designs. The polish goes through a kiln, to melt and fuse the components with the most state-of-the-art equipment. After the polishing process is complete, the result is a flat linear reflection unlike other ceramic gloss, without the need for sealing the slab. This process creates the exclusive polishing effect that is suitable for residential and commercial buildings such as homes, hospitals, hotels, office spaces and retail stores.

Judged by a group of 28 independent industry professionals, the Architectural Product award program represents a mechanism to objectively review products that architects, interior designers, lighting designers and veteran A/E/C writers found innovative and worth investigating.

“Building on the success of last year’s program, our sixth edition of the awards proves commercial building manufacturers are committed to and are working arduously toward delivering more sustainable products, as well as products that deliver better performance, life and affordability," said Jim Crockett, editorial director, Architectural Products.
